Bulldog Rifle Captures Second Place at SEARC 6/NCAA Sectional

The Citadel rifle team fired an air rifle score of 2263 to finish just 21 points behind N.C. State, at the sixth Southeastern Air Rifle Conference match of the season at the Inouye Marksmanship Center this past weekend. The Bulldogs also shot small bore as part of the NCAA Sectional, recording a score of 2206.

Seven-Run Ninth Rallies Liberty Past Baseball 11-9

Dalton Sype’s three-run triple in the top of the ninth sparked a seven-run outburst as Liberty University rallied from a 9-4 deficit to defeat The Citadel Sunday afternoon at Riley Park in The Citadel Memorial Challenge. The Bulldogs fall to 1-2 on the season and host Delaware in a four-game series beginning Thursday night at 6 p.m.

Wrestling Splits Pair of Duals to End Regular Season

The Citadel wrestling team split a pair of duals Sunday afternoon at McAlister Field House to close out the 2011-12 regular season, falling 26-12 to North Carolina and routing Sacred Heart 41-3. The Bulldogs will now prepare for the Southern Conference Championships on March 3 hosted by Chattanooga.

Bulldog Field Athletes Excel at Gamecock Invitational

The Citadel track and field team completed its final meet before the Southern Conference Championships on Saturday at the Gamecock Invitational. The Bulldog field athletes shined as senior Quintin Turner captured second place in the shot put with a personal-best mark of 47’6.35”, while sophomore Dylan Gidado grabbed fourth, heaving the shot put 43’5”.

Orvin, Griffin Pace Baseball to 10-7 Victory over Richmond

Senior Nick Orvin and sophomore Tyler Griffin each recorded three hits as The Citadel pushed across 10 runs over the first four innings and held on for a 10-7 victory over Richmond Saturday afternoon in The Citadel Memorial Challenge presented by the Charleston Crab House at Riley Park. The win snaps the Bulldogs’ 13-game losing streak dating back to last season. The Citadel will face Liberty Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. to close out the season-opening tournament.
